Indoor activities to keep everyone entertained on a rainy day in Belfast

It might be summertime, but it's still Northern Irish summertime - which means that you can never predict what the weather will be like.

As we take a break from Northern Ireland's July heatwave (it already feels like a distant memory), we're reminding you of some of the things to do with family and friends on a rainy day in Belfast.

From first-class museums to family-friendly activities with a bit of a twist to them, there's plenty for everyone to enjoy.

Here are 9 things to do in Belfast on a rainy day:

Ulster Museum

Bursting with exhibitions bringing history, art and science to life, the Ulster Museum has long been beloved by adults and kids alike. The museum currently has exhibitions marking 19th-century fashion, science and cultural exhibitions, and an excellent exhibition marking 100 years since Northern Ireland came into existence.

Titanic Belfast

Belfast's Titanic Quarter (Justin Kernoghan/Belfast Live)

It's hard to tire of this world-beating museum, which celebrates the birthplace of the world’s most famous vessel. Titanic Belfast, with its striking exterior and proximity to Titanic’s dock, has been wowing residents and visitors alike since opening in 2012.

Dundonald Ice Bowl

Whether you're going there for ten pin bowling or for ice skating, Dundonald Ice Bowl is the perfect place to spend hours of fun indoors. Make sure to check their opening hours for each activity on their website.

Escape Rooms in Belfast

Escape rooms are proving massively popular throughout the world now, with this cleverly designed room testing your ability to work in a group as well as solving clues and mysteries. Belfast's Timescape Escape Rooms allows you to try and beat the clock with several themed rooms.

Swimming at the Lisburn LeisurePlex

The Lisburn Leisureplex is still very much one of the best places to have fun indoors. Packed to the ceilings with slides, a lazy river, children's pool, and even the new 'Mission Inflatable' course, this is the perfect place to take the family on a rainy day.

Exploris Aquarium

Northern Ireland's only aquarium and seal sanctuary, Exploris is an excellent place to let kids experience the wonders of the sea - indoors!

Exploris lets you look at everything from native fish to some more exotic ones from places as far as the tropical oceans and the Amazon Rainforest.

Lost City Adventure Golf

The Lost City Adventure Golf (Facebook/@LostCityBelfast)

Ideal for budding explorers and adventurers of all ages, The Lost City houses two incredible 18-hole indoor adventure golf courses.

Based in Yorkgate, Lost City Adventure Golf allows you to 'putt' your skills to the test against crumbling relics, jungle animals and incredible special effects.

Go to the cinema

The Movie House Cinema (Movie House Cinemas)

It's been tried and tested and found to be the perfect indoor solution if you can't think of anything else to do. Yep, the cinema is always a great go-to option, even more so now that we're starting to get plenty of new releases post-Covid.

Ulster Transport Museum

Journey through time and discover the epic story of transport and social change in Ulster.

The Ulster Transport Museum is a unique place for the dreamers and doers of tomorrow to draw inspiration from the engineering giants of this small country.
