Indonesian singer-actress Luna Maya made headlines in 2010 for all the wrong reasons.

The actress and singer was involved in a sex video with Nazril Irham, the vocalist of Indonesian rock band Noah, which spread like wildfire online.

Although the rock star was later sentenced to jail over the video, the 35-year-old star of Indonesian and Austrian descent says she is still haunted by the incident.

Eight years on, Luna Maya recently returned to the scandal during an interview conducted by Indonesian actor and presenter Boy William on his YouTube web series, Nebeng Boy.

Maya, whose most recent single was Paranoid from 2014 and most recent film role was in the 2014 Malaysian movie Tembus, revealed how her reputation was damaged by the scandal and that she had to avoid the limelight for a while.

Maya says she lost her close friends after the scandal.

“The first year following 2010 was really hard. At the time it was also crucial that I didn’t get dragged into court by the authorities. After the case was done with, it felt like everyone had left me and forsaken me,” she said.

During the tearful interview, Maya said she didn’t just lose work in the entertainment industry but also lost her close friends one by one.

“Many big brands, TV stations and close friends distanced themselves from me. As an example, if I used to get 10 offers for work before, I was only getting about three or maybe four at the time. Take it or leave it, that’s the way it was,” she said.

However, she says she eventually picked herself up and vowed to never depend on anyone else.

“It gave me the motivation to start a business of my own. I would have to generate alternative income without looking to offers from TV stations or commercials and certainly without relying on anyone else,” she said during the 18-minute video clip.
