Indonesia earthquakes: Powerful 6.6 magnitude tremor rocks city of Raba on central island of Sumbawa

Two powerful earthquakes have rocked the Indonesian city of Raba on the central island of Sumbawa.

The first quake of magnitude 6.0 was followed by another with the magnitude of 6.4, the US Geological Survey reported.

No immediate tsunami warning was issued following the tremors, both of which came on Tuesday.

There has so far been no reports of any casualties.

The second quake hit at a depth of 36km (22 miles) about 230km south of Raba and east of the island of Sumba.

Disaster-prone Indonesia sits on the geologically active so-called Ring of Fire, where tectonic plates collide.

The country suffered its deadliest year in more than a decade in 2018, when a series of quakes and tsunamis killed thousands.
