Indiependence to return to Mitchelstown in 2022 as festival bosses confirm u-turn

The organisers of Indiependence have announced that the festival will return to Mitchelstown in 2022.

The weekend event returns to its regular site at Deer Farm from July 29 to 31 next summer after a two-year gap.

It marks a u-turn from bosses, who announced back in October that the festival would be leaving the Cork town after an agreement with the owner of Deer Farm collapsed.

Confirming the return, managing Director of INDIE Shane Dunne said: “It’s been such a hard time for everyone in our industry, we’re really looking forward to some green shoots of hope and getting back to INDIE in Mitchelstown.

"It’s a great boost for the town, a great boost for so many businesses and we hope they all benefit from large numbers of attendees next summer back in town”

The festival, which first took place all the way back in 2006 in the Town Square in Mitchelstown, has grown to be one of the most popular events on the island.

It had been postponed both in 2021 and 2020, with the Autumn Air series providing some entertainment for the town earlier in September.

The likes of The Coronas, Keith Barry and The Frank and Walters performed in a number of pubs throughout the north Cork town.

The team say the first batch of their lineup will be revealed over the next few weeks, as well as all the ticket details.

In a statement in October, the organisers had said: “We are sad to announce that the 15-year relationship between Indiependence and Mitchelstown is at an end.

“This is a situation we hoped would never arise, but we have been left with no other option.”

“We have taken the decision to protect the ticketholder funds and ensure that everyone is refunded in time for Christmas.”
