Pubpeab Zine Fair returns for its third edition at GalileOasis on July 4 and 5, inviting print lovers to get their hands dirty making fanzines in the age of artificial intelligence.
Organised by GalileOasis and Wuthipol Designs, Pubpeab Zine Fair 3: The Zine Factory coincides with International Zine Month, a time when creators celebrate do-it-yourself publications globally. The event is a gathering space for creators to experiment and showcase their handmade work.
This year's fair comes back with the theme "The Zine Factory", providing opportunities for visitors to explore the journey of zine-making, from conception to a finished, tangible publication.
Participants can join workshops, demonstrations and conversations with makers to discover multiple possibilities of self-publishing. They can meet with creative studios such Studio2B, Haptic Editions, Parking Lot Press and Moving Weird-nest.
"Make Some Zines" is a workshop where participants can engage in every stage of production, from choosing paper to binding. Exchange Zines is a book-swapping event. Moving Weird-nest is set to feature in a knowledge-sharing session.
Despite the decline of the publishing industry, handmade magazines are surging in popularity in Thailand. Dating back to the 1930s in the United States, do-it-yourself publishing culture is growing in other countries.
On the occasion of its 10th anniversary, Spacebar Zine at GalileOasis officially opened the Independent Print Club in May at One Bangkok "to champion its rebirth through 'New Print Culture' -- a movement that celebrates the tactile and timeless nature of independent publishing".
Pubpeab Zine Fair runs at GalileOasis from 11am to 6pm on July 4-5. Admission is free. For more details, visit the GalileOasis Facebook page.
