Indie band Friendly Fires post sweary outburst after Boris Johnson uses their song as he walks on stage at Tory conference

Indie band Friendly Fires have slammed Boris Johnson for using their song at the Tory party conference in Manchester.

The musicians took to social media after the track Blue Cassette was played as Boris Johnson walked on stage earlier today.

"We do not endorse the Conservative party's use of our track 'Blue Cassette'," the band posted on Twitter.

"Our permission was not sought, and we have asked our management to make sure it isn't used again.

"If we'd have intended them to use it, we'd have named the track 'Blue Bunch Of Corrupt W******'."

After including an image of a news story headlined as "Jacob Rees-Mogg: Food banks 'rather uplifting'", the band continued: "If Boris Johnson needed something uplifting to walk on to, perhaps he should have used the sound of a busy food bank."

It is not the first time a band has objected to the use of their songs by politicians.

Musicians including The Rolling Stones, Phil Collins and Neil Young were reported to have told former President Donald Trump to stop playing their music at his rallies.

It comes after thousands of protesters marched through Manchester city centre on Sunday ahead of the conference.

Meanwhile, a disability campaigner who has cerebral palsy confronted Rees-Mogg over "shameful" fit-for-work tests on Monday.
