CHICAGO _ Carlos Carrasco pitched a three-hitter Wednesday night to carry the Indians to a 5-1 victory over the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Carrasco's dominant performance, on just 97 pitches, helped the Indians to their 14th straight victory.
Carrasco opened the game with four perfect innings and held the Sox to two baserunners through eight innings. He struck out nine and gave up the only run on Adam Engel's solo homer with two out in the ninth.
The Indians took a 4-0 lead against the Sox and right-hander Reynaldo Lopez.
Lopez gave up one earned run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts over six innings. Sox reliever Danny Farquhar surrendered a two-run homer to Carlos Santana in the eighth, and another run scored on a Matt Davidson error.
Lopez pitched around a couple of jams partially created by defensive miscues.
He loaded the bases in the fourth on a walk and a pair of singles that left fielder Nicky Delmonico and second baseman Alen Hanson couldn't make plays on. But he held the Indians to only a run on Tyler Naquin's sacrifice fly to left field. It was Lopez's third quality start since he was called up Aug. 11.
The Sox reinstated infielder/outfielder Nicky Delmonico from the disabled list before Wednesday's game.
Delmonico had been on the DL since Aug. 25 with a sprained right wrist. Delmonico was hitting .307 with six home runs, 12 RBIs, 17 runs scored and 15 walks over 22 games entering the night.
The Sox scratched shortstop Tim Anderson about an hour before the game because he wasn't feeling well.
