Indians' Lindor expected to be down 7-to-10 days with sprained ankle, likely out a few weeks

It remains an unclear situation, but the injury to Francisco Lindor's ankle doesn't appear to be as significant as it could have been.

But it will likely have him out of the lineup for at least a good portion of April.

Lindor sprained his left ankle in Goodyear, Ariz., just before the start of the regular season while rehabbing a strained right calf that had already placed him on the injured list.

After receiving an initial diagnosis, Lindor flew to Green Bay, Wis., on Monday to get a second opinion from Dr. Robert Anderson. He then met with Indians head athletic trainer James Quinlan on Tuesday.

The injury is being viewed as a mild high-ankle sprain, a source confirmed for the Beacon Journal. Lindor is expected to be out for 7-to-10 days for rehab, at which time he'll begin a running program.

While it is still described as a fluid situation in terms of an exact time table, it remains likely that Lindor could absent from the lineup for a few weeks, but nothing has been determined as concrete beyond the 7-to-10 days he'll remain down.

In his absence, Eric Stamets and Max Moroff figure to handle the shortstop duties. The Indians could also look to Brad Miller, who has played second base while Jason Kipnis remains sidelined with a strained calf. Kipnis is eligible to return April 4.
