Corey Kluber's potential return to the rotation in Cleveland has been delayed by at least two weeks.
Kluber was removed from his rehab assignment on Sunday after experiencing tightness in his abdomen during the first inning. He underwent imaging in Cleveland, which confirmed an internal oblique strain, according to a release from the team.
Kluber is being shut down from throwing and will begin a rehab program. He'll then be re-evaluated in two weeks to potentially determine a time frame for a return to game activity.
Kluber was being stretched out and was likely close to being able to return to the Indians' rotation had his outing on Sunday gone well. He's been on the injured list since the beginning of May after taking a comebacker off his right arm, which resulted in a fractured ulna bone.
With Kluber sidelined, Carlos Carrasco on the injured list after being diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukemia (Carrasco is next slated to appear in a rehab outing for the RubberDucks on Thursday) and Trevor Bauer dealt to Cincinnati, the Indians' rotation has been manned by All-Star Shane Bieber, Mike Clevinger, Zach Plesac, Aaron Civale and Adam Plutko.
