Indianapolis Colts select Michigan State Captain Khari Willis

This has been a Draft where Michigan State defensive backs have slid further down the ranks than expected. Yesterday, we saw Justin Layne drop all the way to the third round after there was some talk of him even going in round one.

Khari Willis was a hard prospect to figure out where he would be drafted. Some mock drafts had him as low as the sixth round, but before the draft, Mel Kiper Jr. said he wouldn’t be surprised to see him go in round two. Well, Willis did slide to the fourth round, but a team liked him so much they traded up twenty spots to select him.

The Indianapolis Colts traded up with the Oakland Raiders in order to secure Khari Willis, Michigan State’s Co-Captain and an excellent box safety. He will be positioned next to Ohio State safety Malik Hooker. I expect them to form one of the best safety duos in the league someday.

Here’s what Mel Kiper Jr. had to say on Khari Willis:

“When you watch where the football is, he’s gonna be there.”

Also said he “showed up big in every big game.”

The Colts got themselves a great player in Willis,  solidifying a position of need with a high character player.
