TEAM NEEDS

Safety
The Colts re-signed Clayton Geathers in the second wave of free agency to once again pair him with 2017 first rounder Malik Hooker. The only problem is Hooker is the only safety on the team with a contract past this upcoming season. On top of that, both Geathers and Matthias Farley both missed a ton of games over the past two seasons due to injuries. The Colts need to add a young, reliable safety in this draft class to compliment Hooker long term.
Defensive Tackle
Denico Autry and Margus Hunt were both welcomed contributors on the inside but the team still needs more. Both players are veterans in the league and the depth behind them is not pretty with the departure of Al Woods in free agency. The Colts could stand to double dip at this position in the draft and elect to draft both a one-tech type to eat up space in the middle and a 3-tech pass rusher who can disrupt offenses in a sub rusher role.
Defensive End
GM Chris Ballard has let it be known that he wants to address the pass rush this offseason. Even after adding former All-Pro Justin Houston through free agency, the Colts are likely to address this position. Jabaal Sheard is on the last year of his contract and rookies Kemoko Turay and Tyquan Lewis both have their fair share of concerns going into year two. Adding another athletic edge rusher to the mix would be wise for the team.
Wide Receiver
Andrew Luck needs more weapons on the outside. Even after adding Devin Funchess in free agency, the Colts could stand to add more youth and depth to the receiving core. With players such as Chester Rogers, Zach Pascal, and Marcus Johnson rounding out the roster, a more consistent playmaker is certainly a need. Second year players Daurice Fountain and Deon Cain (coming off an ACL injury) will be in the mix as well but both have thier fair share of concerns going into year two.
Cornerback
The Colts have a really good trio of corners in Kenny Moore II, Pierre Desir, and Quincy Wilson. The main issue however is the depth behind them. Chris Milton was re-signed this offseason to play special teams so that still leaves one to two more spots open on the depth chart. Adding an athletic player who fits the team’s zone scheme would be an excellent addition in this draft.
TOP TARGETS

Taylor Rapp | S | Washington
Rapp is a perfect fit alongside Malik Hooker. He is extremely consistent and reliable in all aspects of the game. His run defense and ability to move in zone would mesh well with the Colts’ defense as well. Add in that he was an academic All-American, Team Captain, and an emotional leader on the field and he checks every box for Chris Ballard on and off the field.
Christian Wilkins | DL | Clemson
Speaking of perfect fits, Wilkins has Colts player written all over him. An excellent athlete who is versatile enough to play all over the line of scrimmage, Wilkins would excel in the Colts’ gap shooting defensive scheme. Again add in that he was a defensive leader for a championship team and he has to be one of the top targets for the Colts in this upcoming draft.
Terry McLaurin | WR | Ohio State
Indianapolis Native Terry McLaurin is sure to be a target for the Colts. His speed and ability to stretch a defense alongside TY Hilton potentially has to have Colts’ coordinators excited. He also offers a complete skillset as a blocker and special teams player too which would make him great for depth. All in all I think the team would be hard pressed to find a better overall fit than McLaurin in their receiving group.
