Indiana teen charged with murder of 19-year-old in Gresham denied bail

Bail was denied Sunday for an Indiana man charged with murder for the January shooting death of a 19-year-old in Gresham.

Deon Evans, 19, of Indianapolis, Indiana, allegedly shot Ohleyer Jones, 19, multiple times during an attempted robbery Jan. 21 in the 9000 block of South Normal Avenue, Chicago police said.

A woman who shared a child with Evans and had a relationship with Jones was involved in a plan to rob Jones, according to state prosecutors. She was driving in a car with Jones when Evans and another co-defendant pulled up alongside and began firing in the vehicle.

The woman exited the passenger side of Jones’ vehicle and got into Evans's SUV, prosecutors said. Evans then allegedly took items from Jone’s vehicle and fled the scene.

Jones suffered six gunshot wounds and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where he later died of his injuries, police said.

Evans was located in Nashville, Tennessee and extradited back to Chicago and arrested Friday, police said.

A judge ordered him held without bond.
