An Indiana State Trooper was among two people hospitalized Christmas morning after he was rear-ended on Interstate 80/94 in Hammond, Indiana.
About 8:15 a.m., the trooper was parked on the westbound shoulder providing emergency lights for a crash investigation near Indianapolis Boulevard when a 2001 BMW SUV struck his vehicle from behind, Indiana State Police said.
The trooper and the 30-year-old man driving the BMW were both taken to Munster Community Hospital, police said. Their injuries are not life-threatening, and the trooper has since been released from the hospital.
All lanes on I-80/94 were reopened by 10 a.m., police said.
Charges are pending the results of toxicology tests, police said.
