Nov. 01--Devin Davis, a sophomore basketball player for Indiana, is in serious condition after he was hit by a car driven by freshman teammate Emmitt Holt.
Holt, 18, was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol level above 0.02, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Holt reportedly had dropped off Davis at a parking lot near the Indiana football stadium before the accident occurred early Saturday morning.
Bloomington Police Sgt. Jeffery Canada said Holt and his passengers were driving away when Davis entered the road for unknown reasons and was struck by the SUV.
Davis, 19, was found unconscious with an injury to his head by police responding to the scene.
"We will continue to support Devin and Emmitt in every possible way and I know the Hoosier family will come together to rally for these young men," Coach Tom Crean said in a statement.
Davis, a 6-foot-7 forward, averaged 2.4 points with 2.6 rebounds per game for the Hoosier's last season.
The Hoosiers' scheduled open practice and scrimmage in conjuction with its annual "Haunted Hall of Hoops" event Saturday was postponed following news of Davis' hospitalization.
Indiana opens its regular season Nov. 14 against Mississippi Valley State.
