Indiana man found guilty of attempted murder of ex-wife in Sugar Grove

An Indiana man faces at least 31 years in prison for attempting to kill his ex-wife in west suburban Sugar Grove.

A judge found 50-year-old Kennrith L. Foster guilty of 13 felony counts including attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and aggravated domestic battery, the Kane County state’s attorney’s office said. Foster had waived his right to a jury trial.

On Dec. 17, 2017, Foster entered a building about 3 a.m. in the 300 block of Sugar Grove Parkway looking for his ex-wife, prosecutors said. Once he found her, he put a gun to her head and shot her once before strangling and stomping on her.

Foster fled the scene and was taken into custody 11 days later in Phoenix, prosecutors said.

“By all accounts, Mr. Foster could well have been on trial this week for first-degree murder,” State’s Attorney Joe McMahon said. “It is fortunate for everyone that his former wife survived his violent attack and is still alive.”

He is due in court Dec. 23 for sentencing and faces a minimum of 31 years in prison, prosecutors said.
