Indiana Jones star Harrison Ford heading to Scotland to film latest movie in hit franchise

Indiana Jones is heading to Scotland to film the latest movie in the hit franchise.

Parts of the eagerly anticipated fifth instalment i n the Indiana Jones series is to be shot in the Highlands later this year.

And there’s more good news for Scotland’s film industry as Glasgow and Edinburgh will be used to recreate Gotham City in superhero movie The Flash, which stars Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck as two versions of the Dark Knight.

Harrison Ford is reprising his role as Indiana Jones in what is set to be his final appearance as the archaeologist.

The filming means the star could make an appearance in Scotland but it’s yet to be confirmed. A source said: “It’s unclear if it will just
be production staff but we think he will.”

Moviemakers plan to capture scenes of the hills and mountainous terrain for the upcoming Disney film.

Pre-production shots are to begin in November, with a star-studded cast then expected to descend on the north of Scotland.

A source said: “Indiana Jones coming to Scotland is great news. Fans have waited years for this. Film crews are expected to start pre-production shots from mid November before cast arrive. Filming is expected to take from a few days to a week before things wrap up just before Christmas.”

Indiana Jones 5 is set for release in cinemas in July next year, more than four decades after Raiders Of The Lost Ark in 1981. Fleabag star and creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is set to appear alongside Ford.

Meanwhile, film crews are scheduled to shoot scenes for The Flash in Scotland’s two biggest cities in June.

It is understood producers plan to use shots of Glasgow and Edinburgh to recreate gothic scenes from Tim Burton’s Batman which will appear as flashbacks.

A source said: “It’s really exciting for DC Comic fans that film crews will be back in town. It’s great news for Glasgow and Edinburgh that once again the outstanding architecture will be showcased in such a big film.”

Michael Keaton, who played Burton’s Batman, is returning as the Dark Knight in The Flash. Keaton originally played millionaire Bruce Wayne in the 1989 classic as well as its 1992 sequel Batman Returns. The 69-year-old actor will be the oldest Batman to date.

The Flash is said to be loosely based on the 2011 comic series known as Flashpoint, where Barry Allen – played by Ezra Miller – tries to travel back in time to prevent the death of his mother. It is scheduled to be released in November 2022.
