Indiana Jones 5: Harrison Ford gives surprise update on Steven Spielberg sequel

Steven Spielberg is moving ahead with his new Indiana Jones film sooner than expected.

Almost a year after the ET director delayed the film in favour of his West Side Story remake, Harrison Ford has revealed he's about to crack the whip once more. According to the actor, Indiana Jones 5 is about to start shooting.

“[It] should be starting to shoot sometime next week,” he told Variety

Ford, who was promoting The Secret Life of Pets 2, added: “I’m looking forward to it. Things are coming along well.”

Spielberg’s planned sequel was originally expected to be released in 2020 with production scheduled for 2019.

Sources attributed this delay to the creative team’s failure to sign off on a finished script. David Koepp (Jurassic Park) wrote the first draft with Jonathan Kasdan -  the son of Raiders of the Lost Ark screenwriter, Lawrence – overseeing the second.

The character’s most recent adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, was released in 2008 to middling reviews, 19 years after the concluding part of the original trilogy.

George Lucas – who helped create the character – will executive produce the fifth instalment while John Williams will, once again be on composing duties.

Spielberg’s next film, West Side Story, will be released in December 2020.
