Indian summer tipped to hit UK as temperatures of 26C forecast for September

We are set for one of the warmest Indian summers on record, forecasters predict.

The rain we are expected to see on Monday will be a distant memory by next week when we are are enjoying sunny and settled weather, according to The Mirror.

As a result of the Saharan heat plumes, temperatures could hit 26 degrees this month - hotter than Hawaii - and the unseasonably warm weather is tipped to continue until November.

The Weather Outlook forecaster Brian Gaze said: "Computer forecast models support the three-month period ahead being among the warmest on record.

"Indian summer-like settled and sunny weather is forecast to start in a week's time, lasting a week or more and seeing highs up to 26C.

"High pressure is expected to bring a southerly feed, with heat arriving from southern Europe and north Africa.

“The pattern of Saharan heat coming to the UK was a big feature of summer this year, and is expected to repeat again.”

By the depths of winter, however, it is likely to be an entirely different picture, with The Sunday Times reporting that we could encounter one of the coldest winters in 30 years.

Earlier this year the UK experienced its hottest-ever temperature, when it reached 38.7 degrees Celsius on July 25.
