Indian street food chain Mowgli opening restaurant in Bristol

Bristol city centre is home to a wealth of fantastic restaurants which cover all kinds of cuisine, and that definitely includes Indian food.

Within a one-mile radius you'll find the likes of Urban Tandoor, Raj, Old India and Dhamaka, the most recent to start serving.

And later this year there will be another top-notch option to choose from, as a fast-rising chain is opening a branch here.

According to Propel Hospitality, Mowgli is set to open on Corn Street in October, just a stone's throw away from the aforementioned Dhamaka, which launched in November last year to widespread acclaim.

The chain, led by founder Nisha Katona - who has tweeted about the Bristol launch, so far has eight restaurants to its name in cities including Liverpool, Nottingham, Manchester and Sheffield.

It is also on the verge of opening sites in Cardiff and Leicester.

Discussing its food, its website states: "Mowgli is all about how Indians eat at home and on their streets.

"She was born to feed the raw need Indians have for tiffins full of fresh bright intense flavour.

"Mowgli is not about the intimate, hushed dining experience. It is about the smash and grab zing of healthy, light, virtuosic herbs and spices."

Nisha gave up her 20 year career as a full-time barrister to launch Mowgli in Liverpool and opened a site in Manchester less than a year later.

The menu at Mowgli includes vegan and gluten free sections alongside an extensive selection of meat dishes, with a huge array of reasonably-priced options to choose from.

There is also a choice of tiffin boxes, including the 'Office Worker's Tiffin', which includes four tiers of meat and veg for £16 and the veggie-option 'Indian School Tiffin' for £14.

Vegan options include the Temple Dhal, made with red lentils, and the picnic potato curry.

Mowgli restaurants across the UK have eye-catching, impressive interiors, with the option of sitting at swinging chairs hanging from the ceiling at many of them for those who fancy a slightly different dining experience.

Mowgli's Manchester restaurant has a 4/5 rating on Tripadvisor while its Liverpool branch has a rating of 4.5/5, with the majority of reviewers at both praising the food and service.

Bristol Live has approached Mowgli for comment and is awaiting a response.
