Indian restaurant in Cork ordered to close over 'possible rodent infestation' and 'pool of blood'

An Indian restaurant in Cork was forced to close for a time in December for a number of reasons including a "possible rodent infestation".

Indian Aagrah/Bombay Brasserie, 89 Sundays Well Road was closed by the Food Safety Authority from December 4 until December 7.

A report from the premises shows the reasons behind the temporary closure included rodent droppings and a "pool of blood" under a shelf, CorkBeo reports.

The report stated: "The possibility of a rodent infestation in a food business can pose a grave and immediate danger to public health."

The Indian was also said to not have "adequate procedures to control pests" after rodent droppings were spotted inside the premises.

A pungent smell coming from a suspected pool of blood was noted as another breach of health and safety guidelines.

The report added: "There was what appeared to be a pool of blood under a shelf in the dry goods store.

"There was a foul smell coming from this suspected pool of blood and this was preventing the area.

"Failure to maintain a food premises in a clean condition with particular references to spillings of what appears to be blood may constitute a grave and immediate danger to public health."

The restaurant was required to remove any evidence of pests, clean the food areas and pest proof the food areas before they were allowed open again three days later.

The Indian spot was one of six places across Ireland that were issued with closure orders in the month of December, four of which were in Dublin.
