CHON BURI: An Indian reporter filed a complaint with Muang Pattaya police on Sunday, saying that he had been hurt and stripped naked by fellow countrymen who took pictures of him and took from him about 200,000 rupees or about 100,000 Thai baht.
Anirban Ghosh, 40, who identified himself as a news reporter from India, said he was hired by two fellow countrymen to travel to Thailand to take pictures to promote a tour company in India.
When they checked in at a hotel in Soi Pattaya Park in tambon Nong Prue on the night of June 1, the two men assaulted him, stripped him naked, tied him up and took pictures of him with their mobile phones.
Mr Anirban said the two told him to pay them money, otherwise the pictures of him would be posted on famous pages of the social media in India.
Fearing of being humiliated as he is a well-known reporter, Mr Anirban said he gave the two compatriots 200,000 rupees he was carrying. He was also forced to sign two cheques for the two men who subsequently fled. He did not give the exact amounts on the cheques.
He called a friend who has a Thai girlfriend for help.
The police recorded his complaint and would inform city patrols to look for the culprits.
