Indian Premier League TV viewership crosses 40 crore

NEW DELHI: TV viewership of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 crossed 40 crore, marking the highest-ever cumulative reach for the live broadcast of 18 matches.

Disney Star, the official broadcaster of the IPL which is airing the matches on the Star Sports network, also recorded 12380 crore minutes of watch time, a growth of 15% compared to the 2023 edition, the channel said, citing data from BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council) .

Additionally, the TVR (television rating) witnessed a growth of 17% compared to the previous year.

"The growth in viewership reflects fans’ unwavering support and love for IPL on TV," it said in a statement.

Star Sports will celebrate fans through a special week, starting April 15, highlighting the ‘Ajab fandom of IPL’ and paying homage through various initiatives that highlight the distinct ways each fan engages with their favourite sport and teams," it added.

The inclusion of Indian Sign Language Feed and AI technology in the TATA IPL 2024 broadcasts has met with positive response, attracting a wider audience, and fostering a more inclusive viewing experience.
