A Dublin man has been questioned in India over allegations he circulated nude photos of a 21-year-old women who refused to have sex with him.

Police in the Khar suburb of Mumbai have received a complaint from the woman who says she had come into contact with the man on a messaging app in 2017.

The pair exchanged messages before the he asked her to send him nude photos which he promised to delete.

The woman told police they had only ever come into contact through the app and have never met in person.

The man, 22, went back to Dublin before he returned to Mumbai this year and contacted the girl again saying he had the photos.

The woman, who now has a boyfriend, said she blocked him on the app before he sent the pictures to her partner.

The Hindustan Times reports that the woman then threatened him with the police action but he ignored her and sent the photos to one of her friends.

A report was filed on August 10 and the man was taken to the Khar Police Station.

The FIR (First Information Report) was registered under section 354 A (sexual harassment) of the Indian penal code and 67 A (transmitting obscene material) of Information Technology Act.

An Indian Police spokesperson told the paper they are "taking all possible measures to arrest him" while a source told Dublin Live officials may opt to extradite him back to Ireland.

The Department of Foreign Affairs say they aware of the media reports and are standing by to provide consular assistance if needed.
