'Indian Ocean is our shared home': PM Modi highlights India-Seychelles ties after signing key MoUs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday asserted that Indian Ocean is a shared home of India and Seychelles and its security, sustainability and prosperity are the shared responsibility of the two nations

PM Modi and Seychelles President Dr. Patrick Herminie witnessed the exchange of several MoUs between India and Seychelles, including agreements in UPI implementation, healthcare, banking, agriculture, Exim bank, exploration on outer space, among others.

"The Indian Ocean has nurtured the relationship between India and Seychelles for centuries. Its waves have continuously nourished trade, culture, and human connections between us. We believe the Indian Ocean is our shared home. Its security, sustainability and prosperity are our shared responsibility. This very spirit forms the foundation of our MAHASAGAR vision," he said.

He highlighted that the ultimate vision is to make Indian Ocean into an ocean of opportunity. "India envisions an Indian Ocean where maritime security is ensured alongside economic prosperity, where our partnership is not based on size, but on mutual respect and trust and where we do not go country-to-country, but move forward together," PM Modi noted.

Speaking on connectivity between India and Seychelles, he noted that digital technology is an effective measure to bridge the distance between these two nations.

The two leaders discussed on making economic cooperation more resilient and future-ready and agreed to continue exploring new opportunities for the industries of both the countries.

PM Modi conferred with Guardian of the Blue Horizon

PM Modi was conferred with the 'Guardian of the Blue Horizon', Seychelles' highest distinction for leadership in environmental conservation and sustainable development.

He dedicated the award to all those countries fighting the challenge of climate change and considering environmental conservation as their duty towards future generations.
