Indian Navy Was Minutes Away from Striking Pakistan During Operation Sindoor, Says Navy Chief

Highlighting the Navy’s preparedness, Admiral Tripathi stated that the force maintained an aggressive posture throughout the operation. “It is not a hidden fact anymore that we were just minutes away from striking Pakistan from sea, when they requested the stoppage of kinetic actions,” he said, as quoted by news agency ANI.

Operation Sindoor was launched on May 7, 2025, in response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The operation aimed to dismantle terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. According to reports, over 100 terrorists were eliminated during the mission.

The operation led to several days of military confrontation between India and Pakistan, before both sides agreed to a cessation of hostilities on May 10.

Admiral Tripathi emphasized that the Indian Navy played a crucial role in reinforcing national confidence during the conflict. He noted that the Navy’s swift and decisive actions demonstrated its operational strength and readiness.

He also highlighted a significant moment during the operation, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi undertook a 17-hour overnight embarkation with the Navy on the Western Seaboard. This, the Navy chief said, showcased the “breadth and depth” of India’s naval capabilities.

Earlier, Admiral Tripathi had pointed out that the Navy’s assertive deployment forced the Pakistan Navy to remain close to its ports or near the Makran coast, limiting its operational movement.

He further added that Operation Sindoor is ongoing and has not officially concluded, underlining the continued vigilance of the Indian armed forces.
