Indian man dies in road accident in Detroit; his two-wheeler was hit by a car; developed cerebral fat embolism

Nithyanand Reddy Gannu, a 26-year-old Indian man, was declared dead, days after he met a devastating road accident in Detroit. The accident took place on July 18 when Reddy was riding his two-wheeler. He was hit by a car and was critically injured. He suffered multiple serious injuries, including a fracture that required emergency surgery. But after the accident, he developed a rare and life-threatening condition called cerebral fat embolism, his friends and family said, explaining that it is a condition in which fat droplets from a fractured bone travel through the bloodstream and affect the brain, causing multiple clots in the brain.

His friends and family started a fundraiser for his treatment. "Our dear friend, Nithyanand Reddy Gannu (Nandhu), is a kind, hardworking, and caring 26-year-old from a farming background whose life changed after a devastating accident. Doctors have officially declared Nandhu brain dead and he remains on life support

He suffered multiple serious injuries, including a severe fracture that required emergency surgery. While his family hoped that surgery would be the first step toward recovery, he developed a rare and life-threatening condition known as cerebral fat embolism, a condition in which fat droplets from a fractured bone travel through the bloodstream and affect the brain, causing multiple clots in the brain," the fundraiser said.

"He is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), on a ventilator, under the constant care of trauma specialists, neurosurgeons, orthopedic surgeons, and critical care physicians. His condition remains critical, and his family and friends are hoping and praying for positive signs of recovery," it said.

His friends were at the hospital on July 23 as it was his birthday, while he lay unconscious. Hours later, he was declared dead.

Reddy is from Telangana's Nirmal district. He came to the US three years ago to pursue an EMS (Emergency Medical Services) course. He had recently completed his studies and joined a job. He was living in Detroit.
