An Indian and Pakistani restaurant that has taken two and a half years to finish has finally opened its doors.
Tipu Sultan has now officially opened in Sherwood following the long wait due to covid, but fans are already singing its praises.
The restaurant has a vibrant atmosphere and is beautifully decorated - there’s Indian music playing, chandeliers hanging from the ceiling and beautiful paintings throughout.
The owner Safdar Azam, 44, from Pakistan says his restaurant is a revolution for the Nottingham curry industry.
“Everything is authentic Indian and Pakistani food,” Mr Azam said.
“Authenticity is important to me - it’s real authentic good quality Indian and Pakistani food.
"I recommend every dish on the menu.
"It’s all about the families and friends getting together.
“The whole idea of the booths is to make people comfortable, it’s for families and people to come see each other.
“It’s a relief to finally be open after a journey of over two and a half years.
"I wasn't expecting this many people to be here at the opening.
"Everything is so important to me, especially the customers, it being reasonably priced and helping locally.
"It’s important to me to get local jobs for local people - I sourced the paintings and a lot of the work locally."
Customers said the restaurant was beautiful and really modern - different from anything in Nottinghamshire.
Salim Jakhra, 38, a child psychologist from London and his family were the first customers in the restaurant.
Mr Jakrhra said: “It was really welcoming, we were the first people to come in.
“It’s a beautiful atmosphere and beautiful decor.
“We wanted a sense of everything so we ordered a range of food.
“We really enjoyed everything.
“We’ve been waiting for it to open and it’s met our expectations so far."
