BHOPAL: The lone drag flicker of women’s hockey team who turned a penalty corner into goal, giving India a historic 1-0 win over Australia in the quarter-finals of Tokyo Olympics recently, said, “India will get more drag flickers in future.” She was speaking at the felicitation function of Indian women’s hockey team organised in Bhopal on Tuesday.
Other international teams usually have more than one penalty corner specialist in their squad. But for Indian hockey team, Gurjit has been a lone warrior in this department for long.
Be it the 2018 Asian Games - where India won a silver - or the FIH Series Finals in Japan, where she ended as the top scorer (11 goals), the Indian drag flicker is an indispensable component of the Indian set-up today.
Kaur told TOI, “Players work hard and want to put everything for the country. I am fortunate that I could help my team score a win against Australia in the Tokyo Olympics. I will keep doing it in the future also.”
Asked about being the lone drag flicker in the team. Kaur said, “I am happy to be a part of such a great fighting squad. However, other girls are also coming in drag-flicking.”
When asked to name a few, she replied, “Its not nice to name players. I can say that there are players who could be a part of drag flicking in future.”
