India vs England: Jasprit Bumrah to lead India in absence of Covid-positive Rohit Sharma in fifth Test: Sources

NEW DELHI: Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is all set to lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming fifth and final Test against England at Edgbaston, starting July 1, according to the sources quoted by news agency ANI.

Sources further revealed that Bumrah has been informed about this development in the team meeting.

Bumrah is expected to replace Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. Rohit is currently under isolation at the team hotel.

Bumrah could become the first pacer since Kapil Dev to captain India in Test cricket.

Opener Mayank Agarwal had already been called up to join the Indian squad in the UK as cover for skipper Rohit.

Rohit competed on the first day of the drawn warm-up game against Leicestershire before being placed under isolation. He had tested positive in a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT).
