India vs England: Indian players test Covid negative, 5th Test likely to go ahead as scheduled

MUMBAI: The entire Indian team has tested negative for Covid after reports of fresh RT-PCR tests conducted on Thursday morning arrived at around 5.30 pm UK time (10 pm IST).

BCCI secretary Jay Shah is of the view that should the reports be negative, the Indian team should play the fifth and final Test of the series that stands beautifully poised in India’s favour 2-1 right now.

An internal BCCI meeting was on at the time of filing this report and the Indian cricket board is likely to convey its decision to their English counterparts anytime soon.

An air of panic gripped the Team India camp when assistant physiotherapist of the team tested positive on Wednesday evening. The Indian team cancelled its training session on Thursday and went into a quarantine, locking themselves in their respective rooms at Manchester’s Radisson Hotel.

The entire camp heaved a sigh of relief when the reports came negative and are prepared to walk into the Test match should the two cricket boards decide to give it a final go-ahead.

A call is expected to be taken soon.
