India vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test: No play on Day Two due to rain, wet outfield

KANPUR: Day Two of the second Test between India and Bangladesh was called off without a ball being bowled due to overnight and early morning rain.

The teams left the Green Park Stadium before the scheduled lunch time even though the rain stopped by 10.30 am.

The groundstaff didn't take off the covers for three hours because of the prevailing overcast conditions. The light seemed to have improved for a while but play was finally called off at 2 pm.

The three super soppers at the venue were at work for three hours to clear the water on the covers.

Even if the groundstaff had taken off the covers, it would have been literally impossible to dry the outfield, which had visible puddles near the boundary rope.

When rain came pouring down after lunch on Day One, the army of volunteers struggled to cover one side of the field for more than 45 minutes. Even with multiple covers, substantial parts of the field were left uncovered.

With some rain expected on Saturday night and early Sunday morning, it will be a huge task for the groundstaff to get the ground ready for the match to resume on time even on Day Three.
