India slams Pakistan after it rakes up J&K during UNGA session on Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS: Exercising its "Right of Reply" during a special session of the United Nations General Assembly on Ukraine, India on Thursday slammed Pakistan for raking up Jammu and Kashmir issue and advised the neighboring state to examine its track record of harbouring and providing safe havens to terrorists with impunity.

“I'm taking the floor today to say that India chooses this time not to respond to Pakistan's mischievious provocations. Our advice to the delegate of Pakistan is to refer to our numerous Rights of Reply that we have exercised in the past,” Pratik Mathur, counsellor in India's Permanent Mission to the UN, said.

Mathur exercised India's "Right of Reply" after Pakistan's envoy at the UN Munir Akram referred to Jammu and Kashmir while delivering the explanation of vote on the UN General Assembly resolution on Ukraine during the emergency special session.

Mathur described Pakistan's uncalled-for provocation as regrettable and stated that after two days of intense discussions, all members present at the UN agreed that the only path to resolve conflict and discord is through peace.

India has prioritized the listing of Pakistani-based terrorists during its tenure in the UNSC in 2021-22, and five names, including Makki, were submitted for designation under 1267 in 2022.

In January, Abdul Rehman Makki, the deputy chief of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a Pakistan-based terrorist group, was designated a "global terrorist". India prioritized the listing of Pakistani-based terrorists during its tenure in the UNSC in 2021-22. Five names, including Makki, were submitted for designation under 1267 in 2022. All 14 members of the council, except for China, initially agreed to their listing. Makki was convicted of terrorism financing by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court in 2020 and sentenced to prison, according to the US State Department.
