India’s T20 World Cup team to be picked today

MUMBAI: India’s team for the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia will be picked on Monday. “Yes, there’ll be an online meeting today afternoon to pick the team for the T20 World Cup,” a reliable source in the BCCI told TOI.

Ace left-arm spinning allrounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to be not a part of the squad after having suffered a bad “training-related” injury during the recent Asia Cup in UAE.

As per reports, pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel, who had missed out on Asia Cup, are set to make a comeback in the squad, as they’ve recovered from their injuries and have been training regularly at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore.

With 19 wickets, Harshal has been India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is this year, with only Bhuvneshwar Kumar (31) ahead of him.

It would be interesting to see who makes way for these two pacers, with Avesh Khan being most likely one of them. It would be difficult for India to keep out left-arm seamer Arshdeep Singh, who was very impressive during the Asia Cup.

Seam-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar has a strong chance of being included in the squad. With experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal around, it might also be difficult for India to accommodate leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who had looked good in the 'Super 4' Asia Cup game against Pakistan.

The 2022 T20 World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 16 to November 13.

India finished third in the 'Super 4' stage of the Asia Cup and failed to qualify for the final. They lost to Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the 'Super 4' stage, before beating Afghanistan.
