(Reuters) - India all-rounder Hardik Pandya underwent successful surgery on his lower back in London on Friday and said he hopes to return to action in "no time".

Pandya first sustained the injury during the Asia Cup last September and missed India's limited overs home series against Australia in February with lower back stiffness.

The 25-year-old recovered in time to play the 50-over World Cup in England and Wales earlier this year before complaining about the issue again after the recent Twenty20 matches against South Africa.

"Surgery done successfully .. Extremely grateful to everyone for your wishes .. Will be back in no time! Till then miss me," Pandya tweeted https://twitter.com/hardikpandya7/status/1180355959878586369 on Saturday along with a picture of himself in the hospital.

The Indian cricket board (BCCI) said they consulted spine specialists in England who recommended surgery.

"The all-rounder travelled to London on Oct. 2 with team India physiotherapist Mr Yogesh Parmar... Hardik will soon commence his rehabilitation process," the BCCI said in a statement.
