India's newest whisky at £200 a bottle is 'as good as having sex' says dram guru

Drinking India’s newest whisky is as good as having sex, according to the latest edition of Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible.

Dram guru Murray rates Paul John Mithuna among the best three newcomers on the planet, scoring it 97 out of 100. And he claims supping the Asian tipple will leave drinkers in a post-romp daze.

In his 2021 guide, the author praises the whisky’s “extraordinary intensity, complexity and beauty”.

He says it has notes of “chocolate, molasses, dates, ultra-delicate spices, all slightly leavened by passion fruit”.

Murray adds: “The end of the experience is like after you have just made love and you are unable to speak or move while your senses get back into some kind of normality.

“This is a whisky to devour… while it devours you.”

The launch of Mithuna has been delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it will hit the shelves in November at £200 a bottle.

Paul John master distiller Michael D’Souza claims the secret of his creation lies in the virgin oak casks in which it was matured, along with Goa’s warm and humid weather.

It’s the first time in more than a decade that an Indian tipple has made the top three in Murray’s World Whisky of the Year awards.

This year’s winner is the Canadian dram Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye.
