Lounge review: PVR Superplex, Noida

If you live in the National Capital Region (NCR) and are still undecided about whether you should ignore the critics and watch Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, head to the PVR Superplex in Noida. Buy tickets for the 4 DX screen and we promise the moving seats, mild wind and light spray of water will make up for the lacunae in the script.

This Superplex, the first of its kind in the NCR, opened to the public on 28 March at the Logix City Centre mall, which is not yet fully operational. It has 15 screens—including three Gold Class, one IMAX screen, one 4 DX screen, nine mainstream (two of them with Dolby Atmos sound) and one dedicated screen, Playhouse, with special seating arrangements for children.

The good stuff

If you have not experienced a 4 DX screen in a theme park or elsewhere, here is your chance. Even though, on an average, only 30-35% of a 2-hour movie lends itself to special accompanied effects such as wind, scent, motion (rolling and pitch) or water, it turned out to be quite an experience when our seats rattled, and a puff of smoke and a pungent smell filled the theatre during the scene when Superman stands in court amid a blast during Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. A list of dos and don’ts, which bars hot beverages too, is a must-read before you buy tickets.

If the 92-seater 4 DX sounds too gimmicky and distracting for a complete movie-watching experience, you can head to the 388-seater IMAX screen, which finally makes its debut in the NCR.

Another highlight is a 49-seater mini theatre, Playhouse, dedicated to the tots. It will be hard to resist the colourful bean-bag seats, customized 3D glasses (Panda glasses this week since Kung Fu Panda 3 is playing) and specially designed mini-popcorn tubs. The theatre also has a slide and a small play area for really young children who might find it tough to sit through the 2 hours of the film. Parents can accompany children or sign them up to see a children’s movie while they catch another show.

The Playhouse has a dedicated staff of two female child minders per show to manage children (above the age of 2) unaccompanied by parents. It has been designed as a birthday party destination, complete with a special best-in-the-house seat, bang in the middle of the theatre, dedicated to the birthday boy or girl.

We are told the three Gold Class screens have Love Seats—the middle handle between two seats can be lifted up.

The Logix City Centre is a 2-minute walk from the Noida City Centre Metro station.

The not-so-good

A slide in a dark theatre is not such a great idea. Apart from being a nuisance for children who want to enjoy the movie, it could become an accident zone.

Talk plastic

The introductory ticket pricing at this facility ranges from Rs.500-1,100 for Gold Class, Rs.175-600 for IMAX, Rs.350-400 for the 4 DX screen and Rs.150-250 for the others. Weekday and weekend rates vary, so visit www.pvrcinemas.com before deciding on your show.
