India’s first Covid patient tests positive again in Thrissur

THRISSUR: The girl from Mathilakam near Kodungallur, who is the first Covid patient in India, has tested positive again for the virus. The girl turned positive when she was subjected to the RT-PCR test before proceeding to New Delhi for collecting some documents she had earlier submitted to the Government of India.

The girl, who is a fourth year medical student at Wuhan in China, had earlier tested positive when she returned from there in the last week of January 2020. According to the health authorities and family sources, she is currently having no symptoms and is under observation at her house.

“She is not taking any medicine now as she has no manifest ailments but she is quarantined at the first floor of the house,” the girl’s father said. He said he had also undergone an RT-PCR test and the result was negative.

The girl has not taken a vaccine so far. The health authorities say they could not include her in any of the priority categories as the vaccination for those above 18 had started on a wide scale only recently. The girl’s father said she did not take the vaccine because she wanted to go back to China where she is studying and she was not sure which vaccine was acceptable there. Her college mates who are in India have also not taken vaccines so far, said her father.

The health authorities said there was nothing unusual in the girl testing positive for the second time as many other patients had also contracted the infection after getting cured, in the country and outside.
