India rescue operation: 15 men still trapped in illegal mine

India rescue operation: 15 men still trapped in illegal mine

Rescue workers in the Indian state of Meghalaya are trying to save the lives of 15 coal miners who have been trapped in an illegal mine for more than two weeks.

The teenage miners went into the illegal coal mine in the north-east Indian state of Meghalaya on December 13, but got trapped soon after when the mine's tunnel was flooded by a nearby river. They have been without food or drinking water ever since.

The government is under fire for its slow response to the rescue operation.

Al Jazeera's Paul Chaderjian reports.
