NEW DELHI: India logged 9,195 new Covid cases,44% higher than yesterday, while the active cases have rose to 77,002, according to the Union health ministry data updated on Wednesday.
There are a total of 781 Omicron cases now in India, the most in Delhi, at 238 cases.
The death toll climbed to 4,80,592 with 302 fresh fatalities, according to the data updated at 8 am.
The active cases comprise 0.22 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 98.40 per cent, the highest since March 2020, the health ministry said.
An increase of 1,546 cases has been recorded in the active Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
The daily positivity rate was recorded at 0.79 per cent. It has been less than 2 per cent for last 86 days.
The weekly positivity rate was also recorded at 0.68 per cent. It has been below 1 per cent for the last 45 days, according to the health ministry.
The testing capacity across the country continues to be expanded. The last 24 hours saw a total of 11,67,612 tests being conducted. India has so far conducted over 67.52 crore (67,52,46,143) cumulative tests.
Meanwhile more than 49.16 crore (1,49,16,36,985) vaccine doses have been provided to States/UTs so far through Govt of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category; and more than 16.67 crore (16,67,25,556) balance and unutilized Covid vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs to be administered.
Moreover with the administration of 64,61,321 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage has exceeded 143.15 crore (1,43,15,35,641) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 1,52,69,126 sessions.
