NEW DELHI: India has reported 18,870 new Covid-19 cases, 0.4% higher than yesterday and 378 deaths in a span of 24 hours, the Union health ministry said on Wednesday. The current recovery rate is 97.83%, highest since March 2020 it stated.
With a decline of 9,686 active cases, the country's active case load stands at 2,825,20, the ministry data showed. Active cases currently account for 1% of the total cases in India.
The death toll has further climbed to 4,477,51 with 378 daily fatalities, according to the Union ministry of health and family welfare.
Meanwhile, 28,178 more people were discharged in the last 24 hours, taking the total recoveries in the country to 32,986,180.
Also, 15,04,713 tests were conducted on Tuesday, taking the total cumulative tests conducted so far to 56,74,50,185 the government said.
The daily positivity rate has been recorded at 1.25 per cent. It has been less than 3 per cent for the last 30 days, according to the ministry data.
The weekly positivity rate has been recorded at 1.82 per cent. It has been below 3 per cent for the last 96 days, the ministry said.
With the administration of 54,13,332 vaccine doses in the last 24 hours, India’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage exceeded 87.66 crore(87,66,63,490) as per provisional reports till 7 am today. This has been achieved through 85,33,076 sessions.
India's Covid-19 tally had crossed the 20-lakh mark on August 7 last year, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It went past 60 lakh on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, crossed 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20 and surpassed the one-crore mark on December 19 last year.
India recorded two crore cases on May 4 and three crore cases on June 23.
