India relaxes Covid rules for fully-vaccinated UK visitors with end of quarantine

Travel restrictions on fully-vaccinated UK visitors to India have been relaxed.

Arrivals from the UK, who have received all doses of the Covid vaccine, will not need a pre-departure test or undergo home quarantine on arrival. The new guidelines were introduced yesterday (Monday).

Visitors who can show proof of being fully-jabbed will not need to have a negative PCR test to enter India and the requirement of a test on the eighth day after arrival has been abolished.

A rule for seven days of mandatory home quarantine has been replaced by 14 days of self-monitoring for all vaccinated arrivals.

All visitors, regardless of vaccination status, must complete a self-declaration form online before arrival. They will also need to take a temperature check.

According to Indian government guidelines, passengers found to be symptomatic during screening will be immediately isolated and taken to a medical facility.

India is currently witnessing a downturn of the Omicron driven third wave across the country but numbers remain high. Some states are relaxing restrictions, including night and weekend curfews, and slowly reopening educational institutions.

There still might be the requirement to present Covid-19 negative tests to enter some states, with random testing in public areas including at airports, stations, shopping malls and restaurants.

The wearing of facial or cloth masks is compulsory in all public places.

The UK Foreign Office maintains most scheduled international air services are still suspended but a “limited number of flights” are currently operating between India and the UK under a bilateral agreement.
