India, Quad partners push deeper Indo-Pacific cooperation: Sergio Gor

The Quad remains united on strengthening cooperation and delivering tangible outcomes to support a free and open Indo-Pacific, US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor said on Thursday.

Gor made the remarks after meeting Australian High Commissioner to India Philip Green and Japanese Ambassador to India Keiichi Ono to discuss upcoming Quad initiatives and meetings.

“Together with India, our four nations are aligned in advancing closer collaboration and delivering results for a free and open Indo-Pacific,” Gor said in a post on X following the meeting.

The Quad comprises India, Australia, Japan and the United States. The four-nation grouping seeks to promote a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific while contributing to regional prosperity, resilience and stability.

Gor's remarks come weeks after the foreign ministers of the four Quad countries met in Manila to reaffirm their commitment to the Indo-Pacific and support for ASEAN unity and centrality.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio attended the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Manila last month.

In their joint declaration, the ministers said the four countries remained committed to strengthening a free and open Indo-Pacific and supporting ASEAN unity and centrality. They also stressed their interest in working with ASEAN and its member states to promote regional prosperity.
