India pip England by 8 runs, stay alive in WT20I series

This must count amongst India women's top T20 International wins.

Taking six wickets in the space of 31 runs, India, led by their spinners, staged a magnificent fightback and came back from the dead to pip England by eight runs in a nerve-wrecker in the second women's T20I at Hove on Sunday.

Having bounced back brilliantly from the brink, India have thus kept the T20I series alive with the third and final T20I at Chelmsford set up nicely on Wednesday night.

Putting out another display of electrifying fielding, India effected four run outs as England, cruising at 106 for two in the 14th over while chasing 149, sensationally collapsed under pressure, finishing at 140 for eight in 20 overs.

Earlier, Shafali Verma (48, 38b, 8x4, 1x6) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (31, 25b, 2x4, 2x6) hit blistering cameos as India finished at 148 for four, with allrounders Deepti Sharma (24 not out, 27b, 1x4) and Sneh Rana, who smashed a four off the last ball of the innings, providing the finishing touches.

Promoting herself to No. 3 in a bid to find form, Harmanpreet enjoyed her best outing on what has so far been a wretched England tour for her.

Brief Scores: India 148-4 in 20 overs (Shafali Verma 48, Harmanpreet Kaur 31) beat England 140-8 in 20 overs (Tammy Beaumont 59, Heather Knight 30; Poonam Yadav 2-17) by eight runs.
