According to the draft regulations, India's electricity regulator has proposed to allow waivers in transmission charges to the clean energy projects delayed due to lack of availability of transmission lines.
Several clean energy projects in India are stalled due to lack of transmission infrastructure.
The decision represents a policy reversal since India has started withdrawing interstate transmission charges waivers for new solar, wind and hybrid projects starting from July 2025.
The draft regulation from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission will allow waivers to the solar, wind, and hybrid renewable energy projects missing their commissioning deadlines.

The relief will be applicable to the projects which signed at least seven-year-long power sale contracts by December 31, 2026.
It has also been proposed to extend the benefits of this waiver to battery storage systems being set up alongside renewable energy projects.
In this case, power obtained from batteries will get transmission charge waivers.
