Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday targeted the Narendra Modi government’s foreign policy saying the country is losing power and respect everywhere.

Reacting to a report published in The Hindu on Iran moving ahead to construct a rail line from the Chabahar port to Zahedan along the Afghanistan border without Indian participation, Mr. Gandhi said India’s policy is in ‘tatters’.

“India’s global strategy is in tatters. We are losing power and respect everywhere and the government of India (GOI) has no idea what to do,” he tweeted, tagging the news report.

On Tuesday, The Hindu report said four years after India and Iran signed an agreement to construct a rail line from Chabahar port to Zahedan, the Iranian government has decided to proceed on its own because of delays from the Indian side in funding.

For the past several months, Mr. Gandhi has been targeting the government over its foreign policy, especially its handling of the Chinese incursions on the Ladakh border.
