The Indian Embassy in Lebanon has facilitated the return of five Indian nationals to India and thanked Lebanese authorities for supporting their smooth exit from the country.
In a post on X, the embassy said, “The Embassy of India in Beirut has successfully facilitated the return of 5 Indian nationals to India. Our sincere thanks to the Lebanese authorities for their cooperation and support in facilitating their smooth exit.”
The embassy did not provide details about the identities of the individuals or the reasons for their return.
Embassy continues outreach to Indian community
Earlier on April 15, Indian Ambassador Noor Rahman Sheikh met Major General Hassan Choucair, Director General of Lebanon’s General Security Department, to discuss issues related to the welfare of the Indian community and bilateral cooperation.
The embassy said in another post on X, “Ambassador HE Noor Rahman Sheikh met Director General of General Security Department Maj Gen Hassan Choucair and discussed issues of mutual interest including cooperation in capacity building and welfare of Indian community in Lebanon.”
In March, the first batch of 177 Indian nationals departed from Beirut to Delhi on a charter flight arranged by their employer. Ambassador Sheikh was present at Beirut International Airport to see them off. The embassy had then said it remained committed to extending assistance to Indian nationals in Lebanon.
The latest development comes amid continuing tensions in the region. According to Al Jazeera, Israeli air strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon killed at least 13 people and injured more than 12 others despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by the United States last month.
Local sources cited by Al Jazeera said at least four people were killed and three injured in an Israeli air strike on the town of Zellaya in eastern Lebanon.
