India earthquake: Magnitude-5.5 quake strikes near Imphal in northeastern state of Manipur

A magnitude-5.5  earthquake has struck east of Imphal, capital of India's northeastern state of Manipur.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage from the quake, which hit around 63 miles from the city close to the Indian border with Myanmar at 6.47am UK time on Sunday.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.7 hit Manipur in January 2016, killing 11 people and injuring more than 200 others in India and neighbouring Bangladesh.  

The city has a population of around 250,000 people.
