India Building stabbing involved workers at the site

A knife attack at the India Building in Liverpool city centre involved two men working inside the Grade II listed building.

The emergency services were called out to the Grade II listed building on Water Street at around 8.30am on Wednesday morning following reports of an assault.

A man was found with a knife wound and taken to hospital as a precaution. His injuries are not though to be serious.

The ECHO can now reveal that the knife incident involved two men who were both working on a job inside the famous India Building. The ECHO understands the knife attack happened on the second floor of the building, where workers are carrying out a major refurbishment to make way for the arrival of HMRC.

Managers reassured workers on the site after the incident.

A police spokeswoman said: "Merseyside Police received reports at around 8.30am this morning of a domestic assault which had taken place on Water Street , Liverpool.

"Emergency services attended where a man with a knife wound to his abdomen was located.

"He was treated by the ambulance service at the scene and was then taken to hospital as a precaution.

"We are continuing to carry out further investigations to establish the full circumstances."
