Independent MP Allegra Spender Runs Campaign Ads On Grindr, Endures Barrage Of Shirtless Torsos

In a huge win for gay rights, teal independent politician Allegra Spender has been caught advertising on Grindr, likely enduring an avalanche of shirtless torsos in the process.

The MP for Wentworth has taken her re-election campaign to the hallowed halls of the world’s biggest gay ‘dating’ app, with a flurry of political ads recently greeting users who just wanted to get their rocks off without thinking of the cost of living crisis

According to reports, Spender launched the new campaign with queer agency Pink Media Group, and took out geolocated ads to target (horny) voters in her area in the lead up to the election.

One ad, which only appears for users who don’t have Grindr XTRA (read: everyone), shows Spender smiling alongside the slogan, “She’s not on Grindr. But she’s got your back.”

Thanks Allegra, now I’ll be receiving endless #backpics.

Another ad adopts the messenger interface of Grindr with DMs about voting for Spender, which I can tell you from experience are far cleaner than the texts I’ve received on there.

Topping it all off, Spender’s ads have a disclaimer that is perhaps the last thing users would expect after firing off their eleven hundredth dick pic: “Authorised by A. Spender, Edgecliff”.

“Campaigning is about meeting people where they are,” Spender told B&T of the campaign advertising move.

“I know just how much our community relies on the app to communicate, make friends, find love – or just hook up.”

“Find love,” she says.

Spender — who wrested her Wentworth seat from the Liberal Party in 2022 and has long advocated for the queer community — added that while the ads “are a bit of fun”, they also hold the “serious” message that she will “stand up for our community’s rights, safety and freedom”.

That’s some empowering dirty talk!

It’s not the first time a politician’s advertising tricks have made headlines this election cycle, with influencer content becoming a major topic of debate, Greens MP Stephen Bates taking to OnlyFans, and Trumpet of Patriots sending enough unsolicited text messages to make me throw my phone in the ocean.

Grindr is also home to unsolicited messages, but I’ll take a hairy chest over Clive Palmer any day of the week.
