The Independent Group have enjoyed their first meal out as a group – a "cheeky" Nando’s.
The former Conservative and Labour MPs headed to the popular chain following their first meeting after dramatically breaking away from their former parties last week.
Streatham MP Chuka Umunna tweeted a picture of the 11 MPs on Monday evening, writing: “First Independent Group meal out before vote’s tonight at Nando’s!”
The tweet, which was retweeted and shared by Anna Soubry MP, received a lot of attention on social media as people joked about their choice of restaurant.
Matt Brannigan tweeted: "I don't know why I find the idea of the Independent Group going for a cheeky Nando's so funny."
Adam Thomas Aubrey wrote: “Was it cheeky?”
While another wrote: "The independent group are off to laser quest after their Nando’s."
And Andy Peacock tweeted: "Expensive PR person : 'Young people eat at Nando's. We're doing a photo shoot at Nando's' . Every single member of this Independent group: 'Isn't that Marco Pierre White's new place? Ooh I hear it's very good'."
Gavin Shuker MP also tweeted about the meal out, writing: "Hacks struggling for an angle on how best to report the kremlinology of the group be aware I kept a list of medium, lemon and herb, extra hot and my DMs are open."
Carrying on the tongue-in-cheek evening the group were having, the Twitter account also replied to a Gogglebox clip asking about who would be invited to a dinner party.
The group wrote: "The other nine of us are coming too!"
